Bulahdelah's young people have highlighted their preferred design options for Mountain Park and now, with contributions from the community, MidCoast Council, NSW and Federal Government, planning can begin to provide a $250,000 skate park facility.
The Bulahdelah Lions Club has contributed a substantial $121,000 towards the construction of the park.
Federal Member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie has secured a $50,000 Federal contribution to the project, while MidCoast Council will chip in $63,000.
“It's wonderful that at the federal level, we are working in partnership with committed community groups, NSW Government and MidCoast Council to provide local recreational facilities for our young people,” Dr Gillespie said.
“Although the Mid Coast region is well known for having an older demographic in our local population, more than 18 per cent of the Bulahdelah community is aged under-17 years.
“It's important that we provide community facilities for this very important sector, our future.”
Based on feedback from Bulahdelah's young people at a hands-on workshop in June at Mountain Park, MidCoast Council is now preparing a scope of works plan for the major project.
"When the scope is ready, we will go out to tender for the design and construction of a $250,000 skate park," council's manager of community spaces, recreation and trades, Dan Aldridge said.
The Bulahdelah Lions Club’s contribution includes a NSW Community Building Partnership Government grant of $16,000.
