Manning Hospital and the Lower North Coast Sector has welcomed six specialists to the ranks in the past few months.
Rob Hislop joined the Hunter New England Health District as an intensive care specialist.
Dr Hislop comes to the Manning from stints at Sydney-based hospitals, Mater, North Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred.
He brings extensive managerial, organisational and teaching experience with particular focus on the recruitment and training of junior medical officers.
Sydney-based Dr Brij Verma will travel to the Manning Hospital in week long blocks to work in intensive care.
He was a locum in the area for 18 months after completing his medical degree in 1996.
Dr Dhayaparan Ganashan has replaced Dr Asma Taskin as a rehabilitation specialist at Wingham Community Hospital.
Dr Ganashan also lives in Sydney and will commute to Wingham each week.
He will liaise closely with Taree to accept patients for transfer to Wingham for rehabilitation and to help free beds for acute care patients at Manning Hospital.
Dr Charles Estibiero is Manning Mental Health Services’ new staff specialist psychiatrist.
Dr Estibiero is from Goa in India and enjoyed settling into Taree.
Dr Mustafa Majeed Omar joined Manning Hospital as emergency director while Dr Jim Wills is on long service leave.
He has moved his family from Newcastle to Taree to take up the full time position and will share his workload between clinical care and administration of the department.
Dr Stefan Lang is a staff specialist anesthetist at Manning Hospital.
Originally from Germany, Dr Lang was previously a staff specialist at Manning Hospital from 2012-2014 before a permanent return this year.
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead welcomed the new specialists.
“These positions provide important services to Manning and the surrounding areas, and will increase the capacity to deliver high quality, timely care for the community.
“These new recruits, and all our hardworking doctors and nurses, can continue to provide outstanding care to the Taree and Manning Valley communities in modern, expanded health facilities.
“Thank you to these new specialists for choosing to make such an invaluable contribution to our local hospital and health services in the Manning and Myall Lakes region,” Mr Bromhead said.
