There’s no better way to enjoy a Saturday than kicking back and chilling to some live tunes.
The good news is, there’s a great line-up planned for this Saturday’s (July 28) Chill Out Festival.
So let’s take a look at who is in town to entertain you.
Jesse Morris Band
These globe-trotting troubadours are bringing their conscious, acoustic, soul, roots and reggae sounds to Gloucester.
Based in the Australian Northern Rivers Bundjalung region of the Byron Bay hinterland, they are all about soulful gypsy storytelling.
Their eclectic beats and vibrations will appeal to people of all ages.
Jesse is the son of Australian blues and roots legend John Morris (aka Brother John) from the Blues Preachers and is the brother of Sydney singer-songwriter Kieran Morris.
Rory Ellis and the Devils Right Hand
“Rory Ellis is one of those singer/songwriters, like Leonard Cohen, who makes the hairs on your arms stand up by simply opening his mouth and uttering a few throaty words,” said Brett Callwood of Acoustic Magazine UK.
Americana may be the buzzword of the industry, but Rory Ellis personified this genre with pride, years before it became cool.
Stemming from Melbourne, this charismatic singer-songwriter, long heralded as an underground hero of the Americana music scene, began his musical life in 1989, performing in various acts before touring the country solo 10 years later, gathering the stories of those around him to be retold through his music and lyrics.
Stillhouse Union
The five-piece Sydney band Stillhouse Union have been entertaining audiences with their dynamic sound which blends an array of old-time country styles.
The bluegrass influence is strong.
With banjo, dobro, guitar and mandolin weaving their parts it’s hard for it not to be.
But Stillhouse Union is not looking to recreate the past.
Their original songs tell stories of love, loss, hope, friendship, humour, joy and pain. Of longing, of regret, of resignation and occasionally, of redemption.
The band features Paul Abrahams (bass), Jane Beaver (guitar/vocals), Megan Legg (mandolin/vocals), Ben Seeto (guitar/dobro/vocals) and Ben Thomas (banjo/guitar/vocals) who came together in 2014 as members of the vibrant Sydney bluegrass scene.
The band has made appearances at Lost Highway Bluegrass Festival, Gulgong Folk Festival, St Alban’s Folk Festival and Gloucester Chill Out Festival, in addition to performances at music venues across Sydney, Wollongong and the Central Coast.
