Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club has been filled with the sweet sounds of budding young musicians this week, as schools from around the Great Lakes and Manning region took part in the Great Lakes learning community three day musical workshop.
More than 80 students from Forster Public School, Tuncurry Public School, Pacific Palms, Hallidays Point, Taree Public School and Great Lakes College took up their instruments and warmed up their voices to participate in the event, led by Australian percussionist, John Morrison and his jazz singer wife, Jacki Cooper.
“Students come together to play some music and sing some songs at the event which we try to hold annually, depending on government funding,” organiser, Kerrie Knight explained.
“It was previously the Manning Mall music camp, but a couple of years ago it was revamped to Great Lakes Learning Community Three Day Workshop.
“The original event has been going on for around 22 years, and includes government schools in the area.”
The event welcomed students ranging from year 3-12 who were part of their school’s band or enjoy singing to take part in the event, held from June 26-28.
