One is a concert band, which performs at public occasions and in Eisteddfods, and the other is a training band, which performs at school functions to gain experience and further the skills of the musicians.
All band members are required to have weekly lessons.
Students may use the tutors the school provides, with lessons held during school hours, or they can find their own external tutor.
The training band, which recently performed at year one and year two assembly has been made possible with the purchase of additional band instruments which are available for hire.
School principal, Mrs Annie Everingham believed the expenditure was completely worthwhile so that there were enough instruments to accommodate all students who wanted to have a go.
“It is my belief that learning music and playing with other musicians is a wonderful skill and a lifelong benefit, giving students much enjoyment,” Mrs Everingham said.
Band teachers, Ms Leah Pasierbek and Ms Marissa Holland spoke highly of the dedicated students who take their lessons seriously and who continue to come to band practice every week at 8am despite the chilly weather.
Currently about 50 students are leaning an instrument in either the concert band or the training band at Forster Public School.
