An announcement made in the US media indicates Ford will concentrate on crossovers, SUVs and trucks. Ford will start culling with the Focus, Fiesta and Taurus.
With the Focus as number one on the executioners block in May 2018, the Taurus will follow in March 2019 and the Fiesta in May 2019.
Ford’s CEO has laid out plans to reduce running costs by $US14billion. Culling most sedans will save Ford $US5 billion.
But there is a small light at the end of the tunnel with the popular Mustang being excluded at this stage.
This announcement made in the US will no doubt affect Australia as all Fords are imported.
There is no doubt that the world motor trends are to SUV and crossover vehicles.
Sales of conventional sedans have declined for some years.
Ford is heading down a road many manufacturers will no doubt follow.
Personally I’ll be sad to see the demise of cars.
Driving an SUV is just not the same thing.
