Perhaps the secret is that Kathie is just a passionate person in all aspects of her life, for one thing, you would be hard pressed to find someone more enthusiastic about the Great Lakes, but how did she get here in the first place?
Like so many before her, Kathie was lured to the region through years of teasing tastes, little by little on family vacations.
“Although I have lived in the Great Lakes area for nearly two years, I have known about the area since I was a child,” Kathie explained.
“John, my husband came to the area for many holidays with his family when he was young.”
Before Kathie and John took the leap of faith and made their Great Lakes commitment official, it was Springwood in the beautiful Blue Mountains they called home, for more than 35 years.
“As a family, John and I and our children spent many happy times here picnicking, fishing and swimming for over 30 years with my sister's family who still live in Gloucester, then in later years holidaying with one of our sons and grandchildren,” Kathie said.
With adventurous spirits and a passion for teaching, Kathie and John moved to Dachang, near Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, China, to teach science and oral English at a local Chinese school from 2011-16, but it was only for so long they could resist the allure of our sandy patch of heaven.
“Having being fortunate enough to have lived in and travelled to many places in the world, Green Point and its surrounds are the places we now will always be excited to come home to.
“The natural beauty, resources and people are such a draw card,” Kathie gushed about her newfound forever home.
“We have no inclination or desire to move away from the Great Lakes area, we are very happy at Green Point.”
Alongside enjoying the beauty of surrounding lakes, beaches, nature trails and the great weather, Kathie asserts that her neighbours, being away from the noise and traffic of Sydney, and the great restaurants and cafes of the area are also her favourite aspects of coastal life.
“We love bushwalking, swimming and kayaking, exploring the natural landscape, having visitors stay and showing them the sights, socialising with friends and getting involved with some local activities too,” Kathie said.
“Reading peacefully on our back deck overlooking part of Wallis Lake and of course, sampling the coastal cuisine and wines around the area, there are so many wonderful attractions that make this place home.”
