Tuncurry Beach lawn bowler, Sarah Boddington has further etched her name in the record books by winning the Lower North Coast District Singles championship for a fifth successive time.
At the same time Sarah notched up another milestone by winning nine district singles titles in the last 10 years.
Her only defeat was in 2012 when she was based on the South Coast.
A veteran of more than 100 test games for the NSW open State team, the 25-year-old TAFE student said that it was great to create history against the same opponent from when it all started back in 2014.
Sarah was referring to Forster Bowling Club’s Laraine Mazurek, who is well known and respected within the lawn bowling community.
“In my first year after moving to Tuncurry from Huskisson I met Laraine in the final of the district singles, and here we were again facing against each other four years later,” Sarah said.
“And, I can tell you that she was just as worthy an opponent in our latest encounter as she was back in 2014.
“In fact, in every game I had leading up to and including the final my opponents not only played very well but also displayed great sportsmanship despite being beaten.
“This just shows what a great bunch of bowlers we have in this district.”
The diminutive bowler is now determined more than ever to emulate her feats of 2011 and 2013 when she won the State final of the event which made her the youngest and second youngest NSW State singles champion in history.
“Many players look at the district singles as a finite event in itself but I treat it as the first six rounds of the State singles,” she said.
“The job is only half done so I need to work hard on my game for the next few months so I can retain my form right up to the State finals.
“And, even before that I have to win a regional play-off up at North Haven.”
Boddington’s next big event, though, will be in Darwin later this month when she joins her NSW team-mates in the annual Australian Sides Championships, an event that sees all states and territories pitted against each other in a series of test matches.
