The seniors won 26-12 while the 18’s secured a 16-12 result.
The Hawks halves pairing, consisting of live wires Blake English and Riley Glover were at the centre of most of the local side’s good work, while Byram Stewart seemed to be relishing the added workload in his new role at lock forward.
The Bulls scored early in the match before some slick work from the back saw Taine Paulson put winger Tyson Gray over in the corner to lock the scores up at six apiece.
Glover then orchestrated a try for opposite winger Hayden Bolt to send his team to oranges with a 10-6 lead.
Glover dummied his way through the Taree defence soon after the restart to further extend the lead, before the Bulls hit back for their aecond try.
Any chance of a Taree City comeback was soon snuffed out when English slipped through the tiring Bulls forwards for a clever four pointer and Gray completed his double to wrap up the day’s scoring.
A downside to the afternoon was a serious shoulder injury to centre Dylan Lowry, who had been outstanding during the preseason.
Afterwards, at the Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club, Coach, Phil Adamson said he was pleased with his side’s performance.
But, he stressed that there was a lot of improvement to be had before the group three season kicks off on Saturday, April 14 with a trip to Wingham before the first home game of the season the following Sunday against Port City.
The under 18s finished their preseason with their second win from as many outings, proving too strong for their Taree City opponents.
The young forwards laid a platform for fullback Aaron Hill to score a double while Nathan Ford also got his name on the score sheet.
A new look and very young ladies league tag side went down to the Wingham Tigers 10 points to 6.
