The Country Rugby League women’s participation officer was one of five players from last season’s North Newcastle team that were named on Thursday.
They are all set to take part in the inaugural NRL women’s premiership later in 2018 after a series of elite games, promotion activities and training camps, starting this weekend in Sydney.
Foster-based Hilder, who has been the driving force behind an all women’s competition kicking off in the Hunter next month, almost retired after last year’s comeback but continued training to make the grade.
“I’m really excited,” the former Australian rugby league and touch football representative said.
Hilder, Fressard, Moran, Young and Kelly will again link up at club level in the NSW Women’s Premiership, but their side will now be known as Newcastle and backed by Country Rugby League (CRL). Round one will be a grand final replay with South Sydney at Redfern Oval on Saturday, March 24.
Last year’s North Newcastle outfit will still exist, but as one of seven in the new CRL women’s competition set to start on April 7. Glendale, Cardiff, Stockton, Waratah, Maitland United and Berkeley Vale are the other clubs to feature in the opening draw.
