The group initially gathered at the old Methodist Church in Wallis Street, Forster, but as word got out and the congregation grew, the need for more storage space demanded the relocation to what was then Tuncurry Lakes Theatre. This transpired in February 1977.
For 20 years, the group met at this location on a weekly basis, weaving, spinning and knitting all manner of marvelous creations, all the while building the bonds of friendship and community.
The most recent relocation saw the group head across town to take up residence in the CWA Rooms in Little Street, Forster.
“And that’s where we still meet each week,” publicity officer, Gillian Weller said.
“Over the years, the group has brought people together, assisting to build social cohesion within the community with the advantages of sharing information, providing a skill development support and a social outlet for our members.
“Activities have changed over the years as membership has changed, but we still remain a friendly, active group jointly producing products that are donated to charity.
“We see it as an opportunity to give something back to the community, as well as working on individual projects.”
The group meets every Wednesday between 10am-12pm, and welcomes new members to come along and join the family.
“Anyone wishing to join the group, or those needing more information, please contact Marjo (Mayo) on 0413641825 or 65549227,” Gillian added.
