Wet and windy conditions greeted competitors for the second annual girls only triathlon at Forster Keys on January 14.
The event, hosted by Forster Triathlon Club, focused on giving girls of all abilities the chance to try their luck at competing in a triathlon.
Forster Triathlon Club president Dave Fitzhardinge was thrilled with the turnout for the event, with competitor numbers reaching capacity.
“Entries sold out so we had to turn some away which was unfortunate,” Dave said.
Despite the unfavourable conditions, Dave said the event was enjoyed by all.
“There was no wind in the morning but about 20 minutes before the race the southerly front came in,” Dave said.
“Everyone still had a smile on their face.”
He added that a lot of the girls had not attempted a triathlon before, with some swimming in open water for the first time.
Aimee Carlin was the first over the line in 40 minutes and 33 seconds. Jodie Barry was second to finish in 43 minutes and four seconds.
Dave confirmed the girls only triathlon will be held in 2019.
Meanwhile, the annual Crowdy Triathlon has been cancelled for 2018.
The event was previously staged by the Forster club and held at Crowdy Beach and Crowdy National Park.
“It’s just too hard for everyone to go up there,” Dave said.
