An exhibition of work by artists who engage with everyday materials and imagery in surprising and transformative ways is on show in the Great Lakes

Titled Beyond the Ordinary, it embraces the everyday as a subject matter through diverse material approaches and expressive forms including ceramics, drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, fibre and textiles.

The exhibition has been organised and curated by local artists, Jana Pearceova and Gerard Pearce at their studio and gallery in Green Point.

It includes oil paintings and sculptures by Gerard, works of mixed media and textiles by Jana and select pieces by members of the textile collective, Manning Fibre Artists.

Jana, the feature artist, was born and grew up in central Slovakia.

She settled to Australia in 1999.

She now lives in Green Point, just off The Lakes Way, with her husband.

The landscapes and histories of those disparate locations are a rich source of inspiration for her work.

Her art practice evolved from her ongoing interest in textile traditions, both from her Slovak heritage and from a professionally pursued interest in the field of garment, costume and wardrobe productions.

After completing an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts, Jana  earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts at Curtin University.

Her research continues to have an interdisciplinary approach, embracing both textile and non-textile materials and processes.

During the exhibition, the gallery will be open  daily from 10am until 4pm.

This is an artists' run, limited time showcase and an opportunity to purchase works from local artists.

Green Point Gallery is located at 105 Green Point Drive and open daily until January 31 between 10am and 4pm.

For the remainder of the year the gallery is open by appointment.
