Finishing high school can be a daunting time for many students who don’t know what they want to do with the rest of their lives.
The uncertainty of career prospects and finding a job hangs over the heads of many, but not Petra Flower.
Petra graduated from Great Lakes Senior College this year, and is one of the lucky few who has all her questions answered for the time being, having already secured her dream job.
I thought it would be a pretty good experience, so I went along. I didn’t think for a moment I would actually get the job!- Petra Flower
In what can only be described as a fairy-tale ending to her high school education, Petra was recently offered a contract to work at Disneyland in Paris, and she couldn’t be more excited.
“My dancing teacher was travelling down to Melbourne to audition for the job herself,” Petra said.
“She asked me if I wanted to go too, and I thought it would be a pretty good experience, so I went along.
“I didn’t think for a moment I would actually get the job!”
Petra was preparing for her HSC exams one moment, and the next she had beaten 250 other dancers and actors at the Melbourne audition in September for the role of her dreams.
“I will be doing character work at Disneyland, dressing up as characters like Wendy from Peter Pan,” she said.
“It’s a dream come true.”
With her contract commencing in February, Petra can now relax and enjoy a well earned break before she jets off in the new year, for a new beginning.
“It’s an open ended contract, so I can hopefully stay there for a few years working in the role,” she said.
“It sounds so fun I can’t wait to get started.
“To have a plan right now is so good, there’s a lot going on at the moment.”
After studying drama and dance both through school and as extra curricular activities, Petra is excited to have secured a job in the industry so quickly.
“I only know of three other people from the audition who were offered spots, so it’s pretty exciting.
As for the language barrier, that’s just another hurdle Petra is excited to take into her stride.
“I don’t speak any French yet, but we will get lessons over there as part of the job which is pretty cool, I can’t wait to get stuck into it,” she said.
