More than 90 players, consisting of 24 teams attended the event earlier this month, held at the Gloucester Bowling Club.
Known as the big event of the Gloucester Women’s Bowls calendar, the event was a success, not only with clear blue skies looking over the players, but with the impressive turnout meaning all the greens were full.
It’s been known by other names in the past, but it’s a long running tradition according to the newly appointed president, Jean Holstein.
She’s took on the overseeing of the event within the first week of her presidency and was the only player not bowling, with all other members involved in the competition.
Jean was working as an umpire, alongside fellow Gloucester men’s player, Gordon Pritchard.
Clubs were represented from as far as Victoria, Murrurundi, Baraba, Kurri Kurri, Booloroo and Charlestown and as near as Taree, Blackhead, Wingham, Old Bar, Harrington and Tuncurry.
The women played in teams of four for a total prize pool of $1000.
Jean said more than 40 local business donated either money or raffle prizes for the event.
“They’ve been wonderful.”
