The entire school, from kindergarten to year 6, performed in the ‘very, very small schools choir’ and the ‘small schools choir’ sections on the final day of the vocal section.
Led by choir teacher Amy Crozier, the students performed Brave and an Anzac song called On the Hill in the first section, where they received highly commended.
In the next section, they performed Boogie and True Colours, where they received the overall encouragement award for the day with a $125 Bass and Blues Music Store voucher.
“They were all so excited,” Miss Crozier said.
“Being a small school it’s quite a big deal performing on a big stage. They all looked beautiful in their uniforms. I was overwhelmed by how well they did.”
Miss Crozier said having the various ages in the choir means the main focus is learning the words and doing singing lessons with the older students.
“The younger students then follow the older students,” she said.
Next students will put their focus into practising for term four’s school musical, titled ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’.
Students from kindergarten to year 2 will sing and students from 3 to 6 will sing and act.
Miss Crozier said theatre and choir teach the students many social skills, including confidence and teamwork.
“What they learn feeds back into lots of different areas outside the creative arts.”
