The session started with an address by nine practising professionals.
These introductory talks were designed to entice the students to choose to attend their lengthier sessions, which proved to be very hands-on. The forum afforded the students an opportunity to choose three professional fields they wished to learn more about.
Relieving BCS careers adviser, Micheala Sawtell found herself following the interests of BCS school leaders, Tamara Gooch and Kaitlyn Gregory.
“The students’ capacity to engage with the practised professionals filled me with pride,” Micheala said.
“They asked thoughtful questions such as: what that profession entailed, how much the salary was and what the demands of the university course would be like.”
Kaitlyn participated in the midwifery session. The students were afforded the opportunity to “glove and apron up” to display the instructor’s technique of delivering a baby.
“Our students conducted themselves impeccably amongst the hundreds of other school students, from a number of high schools, representing the wider region,” Micheala said.
“The students, Mr Jones and I would like to thank wholeheartedly our careers adviser, Linda Drenkhahn for organising the excursion.”
