The women – one described as “fat” with red-coloured hair, the other medium build with purple-coloured hair – tormented the family while they wait for their bus on St John Street.
The ordeal culminated with one of the women pouring Coca-Cola on 17-year-old Kaushalya Ilangkovan in front of her parents.
“(We’re) following up on some leads and we are confident this matter will be resolved,” Acting Inspector Dean McMahon said.
“Part of the incident was captured on the footage that police have viewed.”
The family has been overwhelmed by the support it has received.
“They are feeling much better and not judging Launceston by the actions of two appallingly behaved women,” friend Robin Ikin said.
“A few dysfunctional individuals do not represent our beautiful friendly community.”
