Road users will by now be familiar with the fluorescent yellow of council’s road crews, with work beginning back in August 2015 on the now complete Blackhead Road intersection.
A second project to address the sweeping bend near Spicers Road is due for its final seal this month, and a third is set to begin on Monday, March 14 at Rainbow Flat.

Reconstruction on this third section of The Lakes Way, between Godfrey Hill Road and Talabah Close, aims to provide a safer route for the more than 7000 vehicles a day.
This figure includes around 800 trucks and heavy vehicles.
Work will include complete reconstruction of sections of the road, realignment, resurfacing of the pavement and associated drainage works.
“This section of The Lakes Way is currently in poor condition, and as a key route for locals, commuters to and from Great Lakes, and holidaymakers, it’s certainly highlighted as a priority, Greater Taree City Council infrastructure service senior leader,’’ Dan Park said.
“Like any roadworks, there will be an impact on traffic flow, but we’ve planned the project carefully to minimise disruption”.
The work is expected to take approximately 18 weeks and will mean changed traffic conditions until its completion around the end of July.
Until approximately April 18 traffic flow in both directions will be maintained under traffic control, with single lane closures required at times.
Reduced speed limits will be in place and motorists can expect delays.
“The bigger disruption comes in the second phase of the project, when the southbound lane will be permanently closed to traffic.”
During this time, from mid-April to end-July, northbound traffic will be diverted to a by-road, with the southbound lane completely closed from Godfrey Hill Road to Talabah Close.
Southbound traffic will detour down the Pacific Highway taking the Failford Road turnoff to join The Lakes Way near Darawank.
Extensive delays are expected in both directions and motorists are advised to allow additional travel time to reach their destination.
“On such a significant project delays are inevitable; however we ask road users to be patient and to stay alert, to observe any signage that’s in place, and to recognise that the works are necessary in delivering a safer travel route.”
These extensive works are part of Greater Taree City Council’s commitment to delivering safer roads for our community.
