Since last week the SES has completed 296 requests for assistance in Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest, Pindimar and North Arm Cove. An additional 44 calls for assistance were also made to the SES on Sunday after strong winds hit the area. 

Crews have been undertaking temporary repairs to properties for the past eight days after they were damaged by high winds and heavy rain.

NSW SES crews from Port Macquarie, South West Rocks, Gladstone, Kempsey, Karuah Valley, Taree, Nabiac, Harrington, Wingham, Forster-Pacific Palms, Yass, Crookwell, Queanbeyan, Bungendore and Namoi have been deployed along with local RFS brigades and arborists to make a large number of properties safe after they were damaged by fallen trees.

Around 15 NSW SES crews consisting of 270 volunteers have provided over 3,000 hours of time in responding to requests for assistance in the Tea Gardens area. 

With a number of complex jobs still to be completed, NSW SES Mid North Coast Incident Controller John Orrock said operations may continue into the weekend. 

“Due to the complex nature of the remaining jobs and further damage caused by Sundays’ winds we are looking to continue operations well into this week and possibly into the weekend,” he said.  

 “We thank the community for their patience and understanding during these trying times.” 

Great Lakes mayor Jan McWilliams said council was continuing to cooperate with the SES and other emergency services in the clean up after the storm. 

“We thank the SES and all emergency services for their tireless efforts,” Cr McWilliams said. 

The NSW SES will keep a close eye on the weather after the Bureau of Meteorology predicted storms across the region through to Monday.
