Three local children participated in the program on Friday March 19 at the Bullring at Main Beach.
The children were guided through water safety and coaching as well as beach games and board paddling by members of Forster Surf Club’s Youth Group.
The program was an initiative of the Lower North Coast Junior Lifesaver of the Year Karla Berg who suggested the idea after noticing a need for the program for local children with disabilities.
One parent, Nathan Brown said he was very impressed with the 90-minute program and said his son Bailey had thrived on the variety of activities and the one-on-one attention. He said he hopes more parents will consider bringing their children to any future programs designed for children with special needs through the surf club.
Laura Thurtell, youth coordinator at Forster Surf Club, was extremely proud of all the Youth Group members who showed maturity, patience and a caring attitude towards the children.
