ABOUT one hundred people from the Myall Lakes electorate rallied through Taree on Saturday as part of a national day of action against the Abbott government.
The March in August movement saw thousands of people protest in Australia’s capital cities right through to regional towns.
Organisers estimated that about 100 people marched from Taree’s Johnny Martin Oval to Queen Elizabeth Park.
The group united to voice their concerns about decisions made by the current government and the effects on Myall Lakes residents.
Dr David Keegan, Labor Candidate for Myall Lakes, spoke about the impact the Federal Government’s $7 co-payment per service will have on regional patients.
He also spoke about the effects the proposed fracking for coal seam gas near Gloucester would have on the water supply to residents of Myall Lakes, the closure of the Taree Women’s Refuge and cuts to TAFE and universities.
