RESIDENTS south of Forster in the Keys and Pacific Palms area have criticised the lack of consultation and consideration in the planning of the November 23 Challenge event.
Charlotte Bay resident Daniel Scott said Great Lakes Council and organisers had “completely run over the top of people’s feelings” in the planning of the event.
He said council and organisers were made aware from the communities affected by road blocks and disruptions on the day that the event would impact on local businesses, workers trying to get to and from work and holiday-makers, but their concerns did not seem to be taken into account.
“It is a major inconvenience. Staging an event like this in a place with effectively one road in and one road out is ridiculous,” he said.
Mr Scott, a travel writer, said holiday renters or visitors caught up in traffic delays around Forster on November 23 would be very unlikely to make a return trip.
He criticised the lack of consultation from race organisers and joined some Advocate readers questioning the economic benefits to the derived from the event (see letters on page 8 and 9).
“The event may have a positive impact on Forster itself, but for Pacific Palms it has no value whatsoever.”
