This weekend was also a huge milestone for this wonderful Wollongong Car Club and was celebrated in fine style at the Dapto Leagues Club.
There were at least 150 people at a sit down, three course dinner. The reason for the celebration was to recognise 60 years on the Huntley Hill Climb. This was a huge milestone because it has been run by volunteers for all the 60 years and there are not many clubs in any sport who can boast this wonderful achievement.
Ashley Birks in his modified Gemini recorded a fantastic time of 25.82 seconds and broke a nine year old record. This was a remarkable result for Ashley. The next was his son Mathew in his Corolla. Mathew also won his class with a time of 33.17 seconds. This was also a great result in very good company.
Next Forster boy was Ron Gallagher in his 1970 Ford Capri. Ron came second in his class with a time of 28.91 seconds. This particular hill climb was held in the country farm land at the base of a huge hill and it was very steep.
