Motorfest has become a huge annual event in the Great Lakes made even bigger this year by combining with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Truck Show which saw more than 10,000 people view the display throughout the day.
“It was the best event I’ve seen in this town for over ten years,” truck show organiser Ted Bickford said.
“The crowd was enormous particularly with lots of kids and we raised $1600 for the (Westpac) helicopter. We had the best of the vehicles there as well, one of the trucks is worth $1.1 million.”
Another special guest at the show was Bundy the world’s fastest dog who travels the length and breadth of Australia with its owner Tex, on Tex’s Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle. They travel around 80,000km per year and earn around half a million dollars for charity. Bundy was on board the bike at Sydney Motorsport Park when it reached 283km/h.
The major award at the car/bike show was the Bob Burns Perpetual Trophy. Bob, now deceased was a previous president of the Great Lakes Historic Automobile Club, the organisers of the event. The winner was judged by Bob’s children and grandchildren.
John Fletcher took the top award with his immaculate 1964 XF Ford Falcon. Bob’s granddaughters Ashley and Paige and great granddaughter Jaylee presented the trophy.
The Mid Coast Ford Motorfest is arguably the biggest motor show on the Mid North Coast and brings many thousands of tourists to the area. 2014 promises to be bigger and better than ever.
