With the more typical gentle, half metre shore break, conditions were ideal for surf activities while other training occurred on the sand and in the adjacent Bull Ring ocean pool.
Due to prolonged periods of restricted socialisation at school and at home due to COVID-19 concerns, the children were excited to be reunited with friends and animated in enjoying the structured programs.
Beach sprints, flag races, wading races, surf swims and board riding greeted participants during the return of the 2021-22 nippers season.
Age managers balanced training with the view to providing skills and beach safety development for all children while including those who were honing proficiencies in preparation for upcoming surf carnival competitions.
For many nippers in the region, the next fortnight will see their inaugural representation of their respective surf clubs.
This weekend, the 2022 Oakberry Acai NSW Country Championships will be held at Cape Hawke SLSC on One Mile Beach, Forster.
Two weeks later, on Sunday, February 13, the Lower North Coast Branch Championships will be hosted by Crowdy Heads SLSC.
Both contests will include age-appropriate events for junior competitors from 8-14 years of age, for older cadets and for open age contestants.
Although the Country Championship entries have closed, nominations for the branch championships are open until the February 6.
