MidCoast Council will meet for the first time since the State-wide local government elections were held in early December.
The ordinary meeting will be held this Wednesday, January 12 from 2pm at Yalawanyi Ganya council chambers, Taree.

The first item for discussion will be the election of both the mayor and deputy mayor, who will hold the office until September 2023.
Mayor and deputy mayors, who are elected by councillors in the Mid-Coast, traditionally hold their office for two years.
However, due to the postponement of the ordinary council elections to December 4, 2021, mayor and deputy mayors elected by councillors during the next term will have a shorter term than the usual two years.
Councils that elect their mayors are required under Section 225 of the Local Government Act 1993 Act to hold mid-term mayoral elections in the month of September.
This means that the mid-term mayoral elections will need to be held in September 2023
Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases throughout the community, members of the public are encouraged to view the meeting remotely via livestream.
Anyone wishing to attend the public gallery must register prior to the meeting either online or by calling customer service centre on 7955 7777.
If a person wishing to attend is in isolation or showing symptoms of COVID-19 they must not attend.

Prior to the meeting councillors will make their individual oath or affirmation of office before the general manager, as required by NSW legislation.
