The employee, who is double vaccinated, is now self-isolating at home.
Glaica assured neither residents or other employees - who were either double or triple vaccinated - are at this stage showing any flu-like symptoms.
"Under Hunter New England Health District (HNEHD) regulations all staff and residents are to be tested," Glaica House general manager, John Quinn said.
"Residents are always foremost in our mind and our top priority," Mr Quinn said.
Mr Quinn said the facility was waiting for further information from NSW Health as to what direction it would take.
"We have taken a firm approach to ensure any employees or residents identified as being at risk, are isolated."
The employee worked a few shifts last week; the last was Saturday, December 18.
"All primary carers of our residents have been contacted in relation to the situation this morning and further information will be provided."
Mr Quinn's Christmas wish was that Glaica would re-open in time for the holiday long weekend.
However, that would be on the advice of HNEH, he said.
