MidCoast Council is planning to remove a whale carcass from the beach north of Old Bar tomorrow Friday, June 11.
Council is responsible for such tasks, as part of its beach management, and is in the process of engaging contractors to dispose of the carcass at its landfill.
The 7.3 metre whale is believed to have died before coming to shore.
A dead whale has washed on the the beach between Manning Point and Farquhar entrance, north of Old Bar.
These photos were taken today by Shannon and Henry O'Brien.
There has been speculation that the whale, possibly a minke, had been attacked by orcas (killer whales) as the tongue was missing. Orcas are apex predators and are reported to prefer the tongues of whales.
