The ORRCA research team has observed and confirmed a sighting of an entangled humpback whale off Miners Beach this morning (June 1).
Crew members have said the young whale is about 7-8 metres in length. It was spotted from the headland.
The young whale has three white buoys and one orange buoy wrapped around it.
"It is currently heading south but that could change direction at any moment," an ORRCA spokesperson said.
ORRCA will have members out at various vantage points trying to track this whale in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, a whale photographed off Sydney on May 13 was also discovered to have an old ship strike injury which has now healed.
ORRCA is asking any whale watchers who may see this whale travelling north to call it into the ORRCA Rescue Hotline.
The ORRCA research team would like to track any future sightings of this whale and record them in its migration database.
Report sightings to the ORRCA Rescue Hotline on 9415 3333.
