Posting on the district's Facebook page: "These criminals are no doubt walking amongst us on a daily basis, and local people will be involved in these thefts,"
"If you ride a bike, as most of us do, then please accept that you may have some interaction with police, as we attempt to catch people in the process of stealing bikes.
"As with most things, we need public assistance in catching criminals.
"If you know anything about the bikes thefts, know someone involved, then please contact Crimestoppers on 180 0333 000.
"If you have been offered a second hand bike, and you suspect something is not right, then report it to us.
"We have just retrieved a couple of bikes today, one in the CBD and another in south Forster.
"If one of these is from your family then please attend Forster Police Station to collect."
