The fire in Forster, which saw the bus entirely destroyed, left the driver needing treatment for smoke inhalation, while six passengers escaped without injury.
More than a dozen Fire and Rescue NSW personnel rushed to the scene on the corner of Lake and West streets, just after 1pm when the vehicle burst into flames.
According to witness accounts a female passenger entered the toilet on the bus and allegedly lit a small fire.
The woman fled the scene, and now Manning-Great Lakes Police District officers conducting extensive inquiries into her whereabouts.
Inquiries are continuing.
