In response to the growing needs of the community, CatholicCare together with the Catholic Parish of Forster Tuncurry, have created a space where people can feel safe and enjoy the company of others while benefiting from a nutritious meal. Located in the parish hall at 33 Lake Street, Forster, the service operates each Wednesday and Thursday between noon and 1pm. The kitchen offers more than just a free meal. It provides a means of social inclusion for its diners. It offers a safe and welcoming environment where people feel accepted and respected - without judgement. Whether they are dealing with financial hardship, homelessness, mental illness or any of life's many challenges...if they turn up at the door they will always be welcomed, without prejudice. The kitchen is also a potential outreach opportunity for disadvantaged people to access other services through information and referral. Pathways to affordable counselling are also possible. The service also offers surplus bread, fruit and vegies when available. The kitchen is kept afloat by the commitment and dedication of the many volunteers who work tirelessly to prepare the meals and then welcome their guests with a smile.
