The branch, which includes clubs from throughout the Great Lakes; Forster, Black Head, Cape Hawke and Pacific Palms to the Manning, Crowdy Head, Taree-Old Bar, each season invites clubs to nominate an under 14-year-old male and female for this prestigious award.
Hannah Carmichael and James Williams have been selected Forster's representative,
Representatives from branch clubs will meet at Cape Hawke SLSC on Thursday, February 4 for the announcement of the Junior Life Saver of the Year for this area.
The Junior Life Saver of the Year is an ideal opportunity for clubs to recognise their under 14-year-old members' achievements and their contributions at all levels in the community, Forster SLSC president, John Quinn said.
Mr Quinn stressed that nominees from all the local clubs were already worthy winners and have done their SLSC and communities proud to be acknowledged at this level.
All nominees have had to demonstrate leadership roles in club activities, showed initiative in community activities, have completed their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and to be proficient in surf life saving skills, to be eligible for consideration for the overall Newcastle Permanent Junior Life Saver of the Year Award.
These overall branch under 14 winners will then progress to the SLS NSW Junior Lifesaver of the Year development camp for further skill development and surf lifesaving opportunities.
Both Hannah and James have demonstrated involvement in their club and community, obtained their SRC and competed with success at the SLS NSW Country Championships and State titles.
Forster SLSC is keen to draw attention to the achievements of these impressive young athletes.
