English teacher Karen Chapman said the competitors were carefully selected after a challenging spelling trials process decided the representatives from each class.
She praised the students for their efforts to correctly spell words such as 'quadrangle', 'slaughter' and 'rhythm'.
"Every word was met with a clear determination to get it right," Ms Chapman said.
"A great effort was shown by all and a big well done goes to the contestants and audience for their excellence in spelling and their support of each other."
