Melbourne's stage four lockdown has taken full effect this morning, with non-essential retail stores shut and permits required to travel to work and access childcare.
Since the stage four restrictions were announced by the Victorian government on Sunday, there's been rising confusion about who can and cannot leave home for work in metropolitan Melbourne.
The government had promised to provide more details ahead of the restrictions coming into effect from Thursday but business groups say it came very late in night, leaving business scrambling.
As it stands Australia has 7743 active cases of COVID-19 and 10,935 people have recovered. Sadly, 247 deaths have been attributed to the virus.
