This is the powerful, first-hand account of his dad's wartime experience and his bravery in undertaking one of the most dangerous occupations of all, flying with the Pathfinders as they led bombing raids into Germany during WWII.
From his early life in the Queensland bush, to a war career which included Bomber Command and Pathfinders, Gordon's extraordinary life was one of courage and survival against the odds.
Gordon undertook 32 Pathfinder missions, including nine over Berlin, and 65 missions over enemy territory with Bomber Command.
It is my hope that I have captured my parents' remarkable experiences, their love for each other and my father's passion for the outdoors, almost in spite of his bitter beginnings.
- Paul Goodwin
That extraordinary training of Bomber Command allowed Gordon to not only come through the war, but to find a successful career with Qantas, finishing as its chief-and possibly last-navigator.
Paul Goodwin recounts the stories contained in his father's memoirs.
"This is more than a tale of warfare," Paul said.
"It is my hope that I have captured my parents' remarkable experiences, their love for each other and my father's passion for the outdoors, almost in spite of his bitter beginnings".
Paul is now retired and living in Sydney, having had a long and successful career in marketing and executive positions.
Gordon Goodwin died in 2012, aged 94.
The free talk will take place on Zoom from 6pm on Wednesday, July 22 and bookings are essential.
