MidCoast Council growth, economic development and tourism manager, Deb Tuckerman, said the idea came out of last year's 7-day makeover.
"Business owners along Manning and Kent streets felt that once the Tuncurry makeover was complete last July, people needed longer parking stays to really linger and enjoy new seating, play areas and street art while they browse and enjoy the shopping experience," Ms Tuckerman said.
Following approval from the Local Traffic Committee, council has installed 16 two-hour parking spaces on Manning Street between the pedestrian traffic crossing and Lake Street.
There are still 14 short-term parking spaces available, while an additional two extended stay spaces have been installed in Kent Street.
Forster Tuncurry Business Chamber president, Megan Lewis, welcomed the initiative.
"Making it easier for people to stop, shop and enjoy all that Tuncurry has to offer is an important part of creating a more dynamic and engaging Tuncurry," she said.
"This development is another great outcome thanks to the collaboration between local business owners, the chamber and MidCoast Council through the Tuncurry makeover project."
