The confirmation came after rumours did the rounds on social media over the past weekend.
NSW Health issued a press release on Saturday, April 4 providing a State-wide update on confirmed cases as from 8pm, Thursday, April 2.
The information was shared across Facebook after Seven News posted the information in its page.
"Gloucester Primary School has one confirmed case in a staff member. The school remains open as it has been over two weeks since the case's last attendance. The school has been contacting staff and students regularly about their health with no evidence of people being unwell," the press release stated.
According to DoE, the decision to keep the school open was made in line with NSW Health recommendations.
"Gloucester Public School will remain operational after a member of the school community returned a positive test for COVID-19," a DoE spokesperson said.
"NSW Health assessed the situation and advised that there was no need to cease operations because the person had not attended school for over 14 days.
"The DoE will continue working with NSW Health to monitor the situation, and the school will keep parents informed during this time."
At the time of publication, the DoE had not advised when the staff member tested positive.
