Last year the trailer collected close to 10 tonnes of hazardous, problem waste.
Council expects a similar amount to be collected this year.
The trailer will be attending a number of locations across the region, allowing residents to dispose of items which cannot be placed in either the red, yellow or green domestic bins.
Items could include gas bottles, paint, motor oils, car batteries, household batteries, fluoro globes and tubes, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
"This is a great opportunity to get rid of problem household waste that can't be put out in kerbside bins, but it's also a chance to chat to our knowledgeable staff," liveable communities director, Paul De Szell said.
In case you missed these stories:
"Bringing the trailer to localities across the region not only saves residents a trip to their nearest waste management centre, users can drop in and chat with our waste team about how you can do your part in helping us re-imagine the way we manage waste across the region."
Residents are encouraged to check their garages, sheds, laundries and under sinks to collect up to 20kg or 20 litres worth of items that can be dropped off for free to the trailer.
The mobile recycling trailer will visit the following locations in the Great Lakes throughout 2020, however it may leave a site earlier than advertised if it reaches capacity:
- Stroud, Waste Management Centre, Simmsville Road, Thursday, April 23, noon to 1.30pm;
- Pacific Palms, Recreation Club, 3957 The Lakes Way, Thursday, May 28, 9.30-1am;
- Bulahdelah Waste Management Centre, Recovery Road, Tuesday, September 22, 1-2.30pm;
- Tea Gardens Waste Management Centre, Winta Road, Thursday, October 22, 9.30-11am, and
- Tuncurry, Waste Management Centre, Midge Orchid Road, Thursday, November 12, 9.30-11am
A reminder to anyone who doesn't live near one of the planned trailer locations or can't make it there on the day, these problem waste items can be dropped off free of charge to any of our six waste management centres across the region.
