Two local volunteer surf life savers from the Great Lakes have been named this year's Newcastle Permanent Junior Lifesaver of the Year.

Camden Ceccato from Cape Hawke SLSC and Grace Romer from Forster were named the male and female junior lifesavers of the year at a ceremony held at Cape Hawke SLSC last night, Thursday, February 20.
The winners will go on to the SLSNSW junior camp in April.
The camp, hosted at Collaroy, will announce the 2020 SLSNSW title of Junior Lifesaver of the Year.
"Congratulations to both Camden and Grace who will be excellent representatives for LNC branch at the SLSNSW camp in April," Surf Lifesaving LNC branch president, Brian Wilcox said.
He also complimented other nominees - Zoe Allen and Sam Beavis from Pacific Palms and Brooke Hosgood from Crowdy Head - who submitted written applications.
They also had an interview to explain their role in surf lifesaving and what their future aspirations in surf lifesaving might look like, Mr Wilcox said.
The evening was attended by major sponsor representative, Craig Fuller NSW Permanent, branch president, Brian Wilcox and wife, Julie, branch vice-president, Paul Scott, surf sports LNC director, Terry Aldridge, LNC member services Lorraine Morgan and club presidents Gary Curtis, Cape Hawke, John Quinn, Forster and Bruce White, Black Head.
Contestants, who received certificates, jackets and prizes, were supported by family, friends and fellow club members.
