Davis will continue to play halfback for the Hawks' first grade team, where he has served as their key playmaker since joining the club midway through 2019.
A former under 18s and first grade premiership-winner, Freeman will also serve as an on-field player.
"Freeman is a handy replacement in the role of coach as well as an addition on-field after dusting off the boots and returning to the club last season, where he played a big role in helping the Hawks' reserve grade team into the grand final," a statement from the club said.
"Previous to this he coached the under 18s in 2016 and most recently was a coach of our 2019 women's tackle team."
