Bulahdelah Central School teacher Rod Pye's Year 3/4 class completed a fascinating activity, whereby they had to work as a team to build a "trax-like" wheel and move it along the COLA (covered outdoor learning area) area without it breaking.

The students had to co-operate to measure their lengths of paper to ensure it was the correct size for their team. They also had to construct strong joins to ensure that when the trax rotated with them guiding the rotation the paper would not disintegrate or rip.
The key was definitely in the design and measurements needed to be accurate to make the ease of movement. It was wonderful to see student's engaged in working mathematically to solve this task.
