"It was fabulous to see so many students, family members, caregivers and friends supporting our very nervous yet excited Year 6 students," Year 7 advisor Kate Deaves said.
The day began with an acknowledgement of country by members of the Koori Kids Group, where Sally Curnow spoke in Gathang language and Kasey Biffin spoke in English.
The group also performed two dances as a welcome to the incoming students, followed by an information session on the BCS Koori Kids group.
"The information and performances were both engaging and well-received," Ms Deaves said.
BCS principal George Frangos then welcomed the audience before executive members of staff provided the students with information on specific subject areas.
Following a delicious morning tea provided by the canteen staff, the students were divided into groups and escorted to various taster lessons by members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and the Koori Kids Group.
Students made badges with Sue Cross in art and explored the darkroom with Tara Smith in photography.
They challenged themselves in mathematics with Andrew Watt and were inspired in English with Casey Connell.
Parents were able to visit the classrooms and see the students enjoying a range of activities, while Tara Smith and Wendy Parsons photographed the students enjoying the events throughout the day.
The senior SRC boys then prepared and served a beautifully presented BBQ lunch to the students and their families.
Following lunch, the students joined Tyson Oakley for some highly-engaging sports games in the gym.
Overall, Ms Deaves thought the day was a success, with positive feedback coming from both the students and their families.
She was also impressed with the behaviour of the future students.
"The students' behaviour was exemplary and many stated that they felt more confident about starting high school at BCS in 2020," she said.
She extended her thanks and appreciation to the SRC and Koori Kids Group for the mature manner in which they assisted the students and their family.
