Rail passengers in parts of regional Victoria will be without their usual services as unhappy workers take strike action.
Rail, Tram and Bus Union members will stop all V/Line services on the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines on Wednesday.
"While Victoria has seen a complete boom in regional patronage, the government is expecting V/Line workers to do more with less," union spokeswoman Luba Grigorovitch said.
The added hard work of V/Line staff had gone unrecognised, something considered a "kick in the teeth", she added.
Trains will be replaced by buses on the impacted routes and commuters are warned to allow an extra hour for their journey.
"The union's decision to disrupt tens of thousands of passengers in the lead up to the holiday season is extremely disappointing and certainly something V/Line wanted to avoid," boss of the transport operator James Pinder said.
"We're calling on the RTBU to come back to the negotiating table to progress these discussions in good faith so together we can work on a way forward."
Further strikes are planned through until Thursday next week.
