As part of the response to the bushfires, MidCoast Council has made it free to dispose of green waste at waste management centres to support those members of the community who wish to clean up their yards and properties for the current fire season.
Green waste can be dropped at Mid Coast waste management centres from this Saturday, November 30 until December 24.
Sorted metal also could be disposed of free of charge.
The initiative enables fire impacted residents to take all their fencing wire, shed metal, car bodies, white goods (fridges and washing machines) and other metal to any MidCoast Council waste management centre.
Members of the community who have a fire damaged house or building that needs to be disposed of, should first speak to their insurer.
If the building is uninsured, the Department of Public Works should be contacted.
MidCoast Council is also working with local contractors to establish sorted metal collection points for fire impacted members of the community in more remote locations.
Collection services are now back to normal, apart from the isolated areas where fires are active.
Keep bins out and they will be collected when it is safe to do so.
The Tuncurry Waste Management Centre on Midge Orchid Road is open as usual for the use of residents.
There are no exemption of tipping fees for those cleaning up in anticipation of fires.
The $90.97/tonne State government waste levy has been removed from tipping fees.
However, other charges still apply.
The reduction only applies to proven fire affected waste.
There are also a number of homes in the region in need of new garbage bins following the fire.
New bins can be ordered via the council website on the bins and waste page or call 1300 290 763.
