I am a resident of Forster and fire recently reached my front fence. I am 61 years old and a teacher of 35 years. Colleagues of mine in Taree have lost farms, homes, stock, and their family and friends have died in the fires.
Numerous of my educated colleagues on properties who are also science teachers are totally convinced that these fires are connected to climate change and global heating.
We are deeply offended that at this time of danger, sadness and loss the Deputy Prime Minister is calling us 'woke lunatic greenies from Sydney.'
We are not woke. We are not mad greenies. We are educated ordinary Australians living and working in rural areas who, along with the AMA, the majority of climate scientists and world leaders are totally convinced of the reality of climate change and global heating.
A number of ex-fire chiefs up here are of the same opinion.
His recent statements on climate change are ignorant, offensive, dangerous and morally reprehensible. He needs to get educated, stop putting his head in the sand, stop being divisive and ignorant AND START ACTING ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL HEATING.
We pay him to serve us a public servant, so start serving us and the environment and the world.
