Hind Avenue, Forster resident, Steve Nibbs drew on his skills acquired as a volunteer fire fighter when Thursday's inferno spotted at the back of his block.
Hind Avenue sits in between The Lakes Way and Goldens Road, where the bushfire began last Sunday, November 3.
"It was a pretty hectic time," Steve said.
However, Steve and his neighbors pooled their resources and expertise stopping the blaze just 10 metres from their back fences.
Steve said flames reached heights of about five metres.
When Steve spotted the huge wall of flames coming from Goldens Road, he packed off both his partner and pet dog to safety.
Steve said at one stage the fire was heading towards Cape Hawke.
He said the strange thing about yesterday's fire was the direction the wind took.
"It sort of created its own wind; it came back again."
In the 15 years Steve has been living in Hind Street he had not experienced an event like yesterday.
