MidCoast councillor, Len Roberts has been cleared of assaulting a man during a confrontation at the Karuah Aboriginal Land Council office in July last year.
Mr Roberts, the organisation's former chief executive, was leaving the property under police direction when protesters rushed and stood in front of his car.
One of the protesters claimed Mr Roberts had run him over.
Mr Roberts was charged and found guilty of assault in Newcastle Local Court.

However, the finding was overturned on appeal in the District Court last week, October 15.
"The judgement delivered was both succinct and decisive," solicitor, Greg McInnes said.
"The quashing of the local court orders was without reservation and is an unequivocal victory for Mr Roberts," Mr McInnes said.
Mr Roberts thanked his family, legal team and supporters.
"I am pleased this matter has been finalised and vindicates my position," he said.
Mr Roberts is no longer involved with the Land Council.
