Mick Moltzen, Mel Bartz, Shane and Ross Cadden, and Nat and Zeb Watts represented the club at the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle at Coffs Harbour on Sunday, and after some clever time management and great surfing, they qualified for the final ahead of well-known clubs like Byron and Cabarita.
Although things didn't pan out as well from there, with Boomerang finishing fourth to Kingscliff, Coffs Harbour and two-time winners Le-Ba, club president Adam Salt said it was still a great achievement.
"To get to the final was massive," he said.
"What we did there and what we did with the juniors at Kirra was really pleasing to see."
Held in three-to-four foot waves at Diggers Beach, the contest featured nine clubs from Northern NSW and served as a qualifying event for the National final at Newcastle in early 2020.
Although Boomerang missed out on qualification by one place, Mr Salt said they were definitely going to apply for one of six wildcard spots into the National event.
With a wealth of junior talent coming through the ranks, the current Australian women's masters champ (Bartz) in their team, and a growing rep as a little club who consistently performs well, he believes they're in with a good chance too.
The National final will feature 24 teams from around Australia.
